Bordeaux produces excellent and varied wines, which offer very good value for money and they are ideal for every occasion. We need to make this known. We must fight for this.
BORDEAUX is developing for the future. It is a wine region strongly committed to protecting the environment and is in the process of reassessing:
1. An uprooting campaign, with the objective of 15 to 20 000 hectares by spring 2025.
2. 25% of the area under vine already has “Organic agriculture” certification or is in the process of obtaining it.
3. High Environmental Value (HEV): 3 000 of the 7 000 properties in the Bordeaux region are using this voluntary approach (10% of agricultural France):
· Protection of biodiversity
· Reduction of the use of phytosanitary products
· Management of fertilisation
· Water resources management
Optimism for our region, for our Commanderies and for our Wine Brotherhoods: Bordeaux Wine Festival, from 27th to 30th June, with Liverpool as the guest of honour city this year. Almost 31 000 visitors attended this event.
96 Commanderies de Bordeaux around the world, with more than 4 000 Commandeurs. A 97th Commanderie de Bordeaux will join us in November 2024, in Lima, Peru.
The Congress for Maîtres of Commanderies de Bordeaux will be held on 11th, 12th and 13th September 2024.
These three days in Bordeaux will give us the pleasure of meeting again, to discuss and share our respective experiences. It will be a marvellous occasion for us all, to meet the winegrowers and discover our AOPs, which are constantly bringing in new developments.
The “Executive Board” of the GCVB is happy to see the efforts being made to include feminine proficiencies within our Commanderies, where they were previously lacking. We are on course and in tempo for January 2025 to make an assessment.
Follow all the news about events, from the Commanderies, Wine Brotherhoods, Grand Conseil and Bordeaux via Instagram (gcvbordeaux) and the GCVB website (https://www.gcvb.fr/en). To relay your events and your visits to the Bordeaux wine region on these two networks, please remember to send your photos, your programmes and other details to the GCVB*.
The Member’s Section of the website is a resource created especially for Commandeurs, to help them in organising visits to the Bordeaux Wine region (see “Discover Bordeaux > wine estates”).
BORDEAUX, TOUJOURS BORDEAUX !
With my friendly regards,
The Grand Maître of the Grand Conseil du Vin de Bordeaux, Jean-Marc Dulong.
