A new Maître - Commanderie de Bordeaux in Detroit

Hugh Hyland Kerr, MD, CM –Maître

“I was inducted as the new Maître of the Detroit Chapter on the evening of 13th May 2024 in a ceremony at the conclusion of our Parlement du Printemps.

We recognized Maitre Peter Heydon for his many years of distinguished leadership. At the conclusion of this meeting I assumed the position of Maitre.

My first official duty was to present to outgoing Maître Peter Heydon a decanter engraved with the insignia of the GCVB, by which he was honored as the longest serving Commanderie Maître in the USA, and we believe Internationally. The Parlement was distinguished by the generous contributions of several Commandeurs, which included 3 bottles of 1947 Cheval Blanc.

Our exclusive chef of over 25 years, Paul Grosz, Proprietor of Cuisine Restaurant in Detroit, prepared the dinner and appetizers. He was lauded by the membership for his recent awards for Detroit Restaurant of the Year Classic 2024, the Sylvia Rector Lifetime Achievement Award for Hospitality, and Best French Restaurant Award for Detroit.

Outgoing Regent Dr. Norbert Kaminski is succeeded by Mr. Jeffrey A. DeBoer. Mr. Thomas Howell will serve as Chancelier, and Mr. Joseph L. Lunghamer will serve as Héraut. Dr. Peter Heydon will continue his membership in and service to the Detroit Commanderie as Tresorier and Caviste.”
