This year, after 20 years in the role, José Sanfins has handed over the position of General Manager to Romain Courtier at Château Cantenac Brown, a Third Growth estate classified in 1855 in Margaux.

An agronomist engineer and oenologist originally from Burgundy, Romain Courtier moved to Bordeaux in 2015 to begin his training at Château Lafleur, before further developing his winemaking expertise in Burgundy and Rioja. Following an internship in oenology, he became Technical Director at Château Nénin, where he remained for three years, before overseeing the purchasing of “non-Bordeaux” wines for the wine merchant Ginestet.

In June 2025, he joined Château Cantenac Brown alongside José Sanfins as Deputy General Manager, with the objective of ensuring a smooth transition for the estate’s general management.

Now officially in the role, he has praised José Sanfins’ remarkable work in developing the estate’s reputation and growth, notably through the construction of the eco-designed winery built from terracotta and rammed earth, and expressed his desire to continue in the same spirit.

This transition reflects an ongoing commitment to further strengthening the estate’s identity while ensuring the long-term sustainability of its development.
